INDUSTRY WORK
I started working for Slanky as part of a university module in my second year. Collaborating on ideas and helping out the brand was a great experience, and I got along with the brand's staff, so I was asked to continue working for Slanky in a freelance style.
Work I’ve been involved in with Slanky is producing the ‘track of the week’ post for the instagram. Which is a weekly resource posted by Slanky for social media users to view and add to their playlists. It would involve the audio of the track, a fact about the artist and a lyric that stands out in the song.
Other work I’ve been involved in is pop-up shops. For example, I went with the founder of Slanky to Bristol, where we collaborated with a clothing shop for the weekend, which allowed Slanky to sell merchandise. Additionally, Slanky organised for a rapper, Songer, a popular artist currently, to do a signing at the shop, hosted by Slanky. The weekend at the clothing shop involved many different jobs, selling merchandise, networking with potential collaborators and consumers of Slanky.
Other work that I have been involved in has been DJ events. Most notably, I was involved in a single-release event for Charlotte Plank, who is extremely popular for her vocals and lyrics on electric jungle beats. A clothing shop in Shoreditch hosted the event that Slanky had collaborated with to provide. Jobs during the event included setting up for the music event, networking with DJs and singers, and getting event footage for the Slanky Instagram.
Another job for Slanky has included interviewing artists and creatives. These interviews then go on the website and potentially in the yearly magazine. Sometimes, I also transcribe and write up the interviews.
